2016
After a year of intensive training in improvisational clown technique the Short Center Rep actors trained teenagers with developmental disabilities and presented a collective show based upon a variety of situations. The event was covered by KCRA TV Sacramento.
2019
Short Center Repertory presents a full performance of clown technique at California Stage. The cast includes actor who is blind and actor who is deaf as well as those with development disabilities. American Sign Language is fully integrated into the staging.
2019
InnerVision uses clown technique to explore the rich world of it's six blind and low vision participants, confronting the biases and misconceptions facing the blind community. The performance features live audio description making it accessible a blind low vision audience while adding a new theatrical element for sighted spectators.
2020 -2022
With the arrival of the pandemic the Short Center Repertory created All Clowns Included, adapting its theatrical clown training to the unique possibilities and challenges of performing on Zoom. This live steamed performance includes actors who are neurodivergent as well an actor who is blind and others with developmental challenges. The lyrics of the final song were adapted to reflect the zoom experience.
December, 2020
The opening excerpt illustrates Audio Description for the blind and low vision audience and American Sigh Language for the deaf and hard of hearing audience, to promote total inclusion. SCR Adapted its theatrical clown training to the unique possibilities and challenges of performing on Zoom. The next exercise uses passing and transforming objects through the screen while connecting through gibberish conversation. The final exercise explores isolation and connection, commenting on the experience of living in the Covid pandemic. This performance was live steamed to a national audience.
2022 -2023
With the arrival of the pandemic the Short Center Repertory created A Clown Odyssey adapting its Theatrical Clown training to the unique possibilities and challenges of performing on Zoom. This ambitious project brings together actors who are blind or low vision, actors who are deaf, and actors with neurodiverse, cognitive or developmental challenges uniting them into a single performance ensemble.
